Common parent questions answered

BugBusters is built for children and teens from ages 9 to 18. We offer two distinct modes: to 4-18 BugBusters can also be played all ages

  • Builder Mode (ages 9–13): Focuses on loops and conditions – perfect for middle schoolers.
  • Creator Mode (ages 14–18): Introduces functions and advanced logic – ideal for high schoolers.

Younger coders (under 9) may still enjoy the puzzle worlds with parent guidance, but the core learning path is optimized for ages 9+.

None at all. BugBusters starts with the very first puzzle assuming zero knowledge. The 35 puzzles across 8 worlds gradually introduce concepts, so kids learn as they play. Builder Mode gently introduces loops and conditions, while Creator Mode builds on that foundation.

Your child will learn real programming fundamentals – not just dragging blocks. Specifically:

  • Loops (repeating actions efficiently)
  • Conditions (if-then-else logic)
  • Functions (reusable code blocks)
  • Boolean logic (true/false decisions)
  • Problem‑solving and debugging (finding and fixing errors)

These are the same concepts used in professional languages like Python, JavaScript, and C++.

Most coding games focus only on basic puzzles or block‑based coding. BugBusters goes further:

  • Two age‑specific modes – Builder (9–13) and Creator (14–18) – so the challenge grows with your child.
  • 18 adventure stories that weave coding into a narrative, making learning feel like a game.
  • AI‑generated personalized stories – the game adapts to your child’s interests and progress, creating a unique experience every time.

No other app combines structured programming logic with dynamic, AI‑driven storytelling.

Each puzzle typically takes 5–15 minutes to solve. We recommend 30–45 minutes per session, 3–4 times a week. The game includes natural stopping points (after completing a world or a story chapter). Parents can also set session limits using device controls.

Absolutely safe. BugBusters has:

  • No chat rooms, no social features, no external links.
  • No third‑party advertising.
  • No data collection beyond basic progress tracking (which is anonymous and optional).

The AI‑generated stories are created locally or through a secure, filtered API – no personal information is ever shared. We are COPPA and GDPR compliant.

BugBusters offers both options to fit your family’s needs:

  • One‑time purchase: Unlock all 35 puzzles, 8 worlds, 18 adventure stories, and both Builder & Creator modes forever.
  • Monthly subscription (optional): Includes unlimited AI‑generated personalized stories plus new content updates as they’re released.

No in‑app purchases or surprise fees. You can start with a free trial (first 5 puzzles and 2 stories) to see if your child loves it.

Yes. BugBusters works on:

  • iPad and Android tablets (recommended for ages 9–13)
  • iPhones and Android phones (optimized for touch)
  • Web browsers on Windows, Mac, or Chromebook (no download needed)

Progress syncs across devices if you create a free account.

Every puzzle includes hints (gradually revealed so they don’t give away the answer). There’s also a “Show Solution” button after three failed attempts – but we encourage trying again first. Parents can also reset any world so the child can replay and master the concepts.

The parent dashboard (accessible via the app or web) shows:

  • Which worlds and puzzles are completed
  • Time spent in Builder vs. Creator Mode
  • Number of stories read
  • Concepts mastered (e.g., loops, conditions, functions)

No personal data is stored – just progress metrics. You can also receive optional weekly email summaries.

Yes. BugBusters for Education offers:

  • Classroom management dashboard
  • Lesson plans aligned with CSTA (Computer Science Teachers Association) standards
  • Bulk pricing for schools and homeschool co‑ops
